Lynne Riding
Through the study of landscape and pathos, the major concerns within Lynne Ridings’ works are those of impermanence, displacement, shifting perspective, and loss, held in tension with the enduring presence of hope, that quiet but persistent force which compels humanity forward despite uncertainty. She is deeply interested in the emotional and psychological resonance of place, and in the ways memory and environment become intertwined within human experience.
A childhood spent in Mid Wales instilled in her a profound love of landscape and an enduring awe for the power, unpredictability, and fluctuations of the natural elements. The vastness of the terrain, the changing weather, and the sense of isolation and openness shaped not only her visual sensibility, but also the development of an intuitive and contemplative nature. These early experiences continue to inform her practice, encouraging an openness and responsiveness to all that may be sensed, remembered, or intuited. She seeks not simply to depict landscape, but to evoke its atmosphere and emotional residue — the traces it leaves within us over time.
Central to her practice is a belief in the validity and necessity of the poetic, particularly within the complexities and uncertainties of contemporary life. In a world increasingly dominated by speed, noise, and transience, Lynne views art as a space for reflection, sensitivity, and emotional connection. Through her work, she aims to create moments of stillness and contemplation that acknowledge both fragility and resilience, loss and possibility.
“After returning to my roots, I am excited to see where this next stage in my life’s adventure will take me. As I absorb and reflect on the natural beauty surrounding me and continue to pay attention to the subtle undercurrents, I hope to produce work of much depth and meaning.”
